Enjoying Healthier Food On The Go

I travel constantly for work, which hasn't been great for my waistline. After eating in all of the best restaurants in the world for a few years, I realized that I had gained around 30 pounds. Fortunately, I was able to work with a health coach who taught me some valuable skills for my way of life. She taught me how to recognize unhealthy foods and swap them out for better options--even in foreign hotels. The results were incredible. I was able to lose weight while enjoying my travel adventures. My blog is for anyone out there who wants to enjoy healthier food on the go.

4 Perks Of Dining At An Italian Restaurant

by Margie Harris

Italian food is a mainstay for many Americans. You can enjoy authentic Italian food without slaving away in the kitchen by visiting an Italian restaurant near you. These are four perks of dining in an Italian restaurant:

1. Enjoy fresh bread the Italian way.

Slices of hot, fresh bread are the perfect way to start a meal. Many restaurants serve bread with butter, but Italian restaurants bring an authentic twist to this appetizer by serving bread with olive oil and vinegar. High-quality olive oil has a light, fruity flavor that pairs well with the acidic sweetness of balsamic vinegar. You can enjoy these seasonings with a twist of freshly ground pepper to wake up your taste buds before the main course arrives.

2. Partake in a crisp glass of wine or cup of espresso with your meal.

Going out to a restaurant is a chance to indulge yourself. Instead of sticking with water, you can pair your meal with a delicious wine. Italy produces many red and white wines at the peak of flavor. You can enjoy a robust Italian red wine with dishes that feature beef and lamb. Meanwhile, pasta with white sauces, chicken, and fish can pair nicely with dry white wines. Those who prefer non-alcoholic beverages can enjoy a rich, bitter espresso with their food or as a digestif.

3. Sample a variety of pasta that range in flavor from heavy to light.

Pasta is a staple of Italian cuisine, and Italian restaurants can offer a wide variety of pasta dishes that go beyond a typical spaghetti dinner. At an Italian restaurant, you can choose the type of pasta you prefer. Angel hair pasta, fettuccine, tortellini, and other types of noodles can provide varied texture and flavor. You can also choose the type of sauce you'd like to use to dress your pasta. Marinara sauce, bolognese sauce, alfredo sauce, and others offer fresh and bold flavors. You can enjoy pasta as a side dish or a main course.

4. Finish off your meal with a signature Italian dessert.

Finally, you can finish your meal with an Italian dessert. Italian pastries and ice cream can hit the spot after a satisfying meal. You can try a cannoli filled with sweet mascarpone cheese, tiramisu, or gelato. If you're too full for dessert, you can split a sweet treat with your tablemates. Italian desserts are decadent and memorable, and they're sure to leave a lasting impression on your palate.
