About Me

Enjoying Healthier Food On The Go

I travel constantly for work, which hasn't been great for my waistline. After eating in all of the best restaurants in the world for a few years, I realized that I had gained around 30 pounds. Fortunately, I was able to work with a health coach who taught me some valuable skills for my way of life. She taught me how to recognize unhealthy foods and swap them out for better options--even in foreign hotels. The results were incredible. I was able to lose weight while enjoying my travel adventures. My blog is for anyone out there who wants to enjoy healthier food on the go.

From Antipasti To Dolci: Exploring The World Of Italian Catering

by Margie Harris

Even if you've enjoyed Italian food in the past, you may not be familiar with each component of Italian catering. If you're trying to create an authentic Italian experience, you may find it helpful to understand the main components of a fine Italian meal.

These are some of the keywords you should know before you book Italian catering.

Antipasti

Antipasti typically includes a variety of cured meats, cheeses, olives, and marinated vegetables. These are the foods you eat before the meal, perhaps while waiting for the rest of your guests to arrive.

Primi Piatti

This is usually a pasta dish, but it can also include risotto, gnocchi, or polenta. This course is usually served with a light sauce and sometimes includes vegetables. It's meant to be enjoyed slowly.

Examples for a primi piatti include lasagna, spaghetti carbonara, or tagliatelle alla bolognese. You could also offer soup, like minest or ribollita.

Secondi Piatti

This is the main course, and it can include a variety of meats, fish, or vegetables. This course usually comes with a side of vegetables or salad and is meant to be the heartiest part of the meal.

Examples of a secondi piatti include chicken parmesan, osso buco, or seared scallops. Other seafood options include calamari and grilled shrimp.

Contorni

The contorni is the side dish of vegetables, usually served with the main course. You might opt to serve something like roasted eggplant or grilled zucchini for this part of the meal. Other options for contorni include sautéed mushrooms, roasted peppers, or ratatouille. You can also serve roasted potatoes.

Dolci

Dolci is the Italian word for dessert. This course is typically served after the meal and includes a wide range of sweet treats, such as gelato, tiramisu, and cannoli. Less common dolci items include crostata di frutta, panettone, and sfogliatelle.

Wine Pairings

No Italian meal is complete without the perfect wine pairings. There are hundreds of amazing Italian wines that can be paired with each course for a truly unforgettable meal.

For instance, you might serve a crisp white wine with the antipasti and a full-bodied red with the secondi piatti.
