Enjoying Healthier Food On The Go

I travel constantly for work, which hasn't been great for my waistline. After eating in all of the best restaurants in the world for a few years, I realized that I had gained around 30 pounds. Fortunately, I was able to work with a health coach who taught me some valuable skills for my way of life. She taught me how to recognize unhealthy foods and swap them out for better options--even in foreign hotels. The results were incredible. I was able to lose weight while enjoying my travel adventures. My blog is for anyone out there who wants to enjoy healthier food on the go.

Some Reasons Why Outdoor Dining Is Making a Comeback in the U.S. and Why You Should Partake

by Margie Harris

In Europe and around the world, outdoor dining is as common as bread with every meal. In fact, people in other countries typically do not dine indoors unless there is no room outside or it is pouring rain. Here in the U.S., outdoor dining was once popular decades ago but is just now making a comeback. Here are some reasons why it is becoming popular to dine outdoors again and why you should partake in this custom.

Restaurants Want to Attract More Foreign Tourists

Since most Europeans are accustomed to dining en plein air (in the open air), most restaurants in the U.S. want to attract foreign tourists by offering them similar dining experiences here. As such, everything from little coffee bistros and delis to places with fine dining are now creating patio spaces where people can sit in the sunshine or peaceful evening air and enjoy their meals. If you decide to join the tourists on the patio, who knows who you might meet from another country? You may even be mistaken for a tourist yourself, which is always fun when you want to pretend you are not from "around here."

Restaurants Can Accommodate More Reservations and a Greater Number of Guests

When restaurants open up a patio space for dining, they are able to accommodate more reservations for lunch and dinner and accommodate a greater number of guests. Additionally, they can offer patio seating for large groups of people and special events, which opens up the different levels of customer service that they may not have had before. (It is also easier to serve and attend to rowdy or drunken guests on the patio because there is less of a chance that property damage could occur outside.) If you have a large family gathering for a reunion and you do not want to feed that many people, these new outdoor venues at restaurants are an excellent choice for your event.

Why You Should Partake of This Dining Experience at Least Once

Besides trying something new, eating in the open air allows you to really smell your food and taste it fully. Because your nose is not bombarded by the smells of the restaurant kitchen or other patrons' perfumes and colognes, you can fully taste your food. The natural light outside during the afternoon and early evening also allows you to see the quality of the food and enjoy the rich visual palette the chef has placed before you. Finally, if you dine outdoors during a slow time of the day, you can enjoy a very leisurely meal and a more private conversation with your table companions, which aids in digestion and helps provide a more memorable time with friends, family members, or a significant other.
