Enjoying Healthier Food On The Go

I travel constantly for work, which hasn't been great for my waistline. After eating in all of the best restaurants in the world for a few years, I realized that I had gained around 30 pounds. Fortunately, I was able to work with a health coach who taught me some valuable skills for my way of life. She taught me how to recognize unhealthy foods and swap them out for better options--even in foreign hotels. The results were incredible. I was able to lose weight while enjoying my travel adventures. My blog is for anyone out there who wants to enjoy healthier food on the go.

Guide To Getting The Most Out Of A Seafood Restaurant

by Margie Harris

For some people, visiting a seafood restaurant is often considered a special occasion that is only indulged in when the budget allows for a night out on the town.  Because of this, it's important that you maximize the opportunity to indulge in your favorite seafood dishes so that you can get your money's worth.  When you head to your favorite seafood restaurant, use this information to learn more about how to get the most out of the event.

Stick To Seafood

The first piece of advice is pretty straightforward:  When going to a seafood restaurant, stick to seafood dishes.  This is very important, since you don't want to miss out on getting a plate of well-prepared seafood because you chose some other type of fare.

For example, if you visit a seafood buffet, you may find that there are a range of other types of food there as well.  There may be American, Mexican or even Chinese dishes available as part of the buffet spread.

However, it wouldn't make sense to fill up on these dishes, only to leave no room for the snow crab legs, fish dishes and shrimp and crab preparations.  Many of the other, non-seafood dishes may simply be there to enhance the buffet and make it seem more varied.  What you want to do is focus on the seafood dishes that you typically can't get anywhere else.  Indulge in a piece of succulent Mahi-Mahi fish, or try out mussels, clams, and seafood salad.  Save the other fare for when you're actually dining at a restaurant that specializes in them.

Know When To Get The Freshest Fish

When it comes to getting the best experience when visiting a seafood restaurant, it's important to know when to visit the establishment as well.  For example, some people in the cooking industry claim that it's not a good idea to order fish on Mondays since the fish markets are closed on the weekends and you may not be getting a fresh piece of fish.

While fish typically ships out Monday through Friday, some restaurants that are situated near piers and docks may have access to fresh fish at all times.  The important thing to keep mind is that it's always vital for you to ask if the fish was a fresh catch of the day.  This is a great way to ensure that you're eating fresh seafood that is worth your money.

It doesn't have to be difficult to have a great experience at a seafood restaurant.  The next time you go to a seafood establishment, keep these tips in mind so you can get the most out of the event.
