Enjoying Healthier Food On The Go

I travel constantly for work, which hasn't been great for my waistline. After eating in all of the best restaurants in the world for a few years, I realized that I had gained around 30 pounds. Fortunately, I was able to work with a health coach who taught me some valuable skills for my way of life. She taught me how to recognize unhealthy foods and swap them out for better options--even in foreign hotels. The results were incredible. I was able to lose weight while enjoying my travel adventures. My blog is for anyone out there who wants to enjoy healthier food on the go.

Two Signs To Help You Find An Authentic Mexican Restaurant

by Margie Harris

When you start craving Mexican food, you want the real deal.  Although many restaurants have started to incorporate Mexican-American food into their menu as way of appealing to the Tex-Mex, crowd, you may be the type of person who desires authentic Mexican fare that makes your taste buds sing.  Instead of wasting time combing through different restaurants hoping to find what you're looking for, use this information to learn more about the signs that you've discovered an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Look For Authentic Mexican Relics

One of the first things you should look for on your quest for a truly Mexican food establishment pertains to the decor.  An authentic Mexican restaurant will likely be decorated with relics that are symbolic of real Mexican culture, as opposed to a focus on symmetry and color combinations.

For example, you may enter a truly Mexican restaurant and be initially put off by the seeming incompatibility of many of the decorations.  There may be statues of historical Mexican figures, combined with pictures of Mexican lands.  The colors may not match, and there may not be the typical "two of everything" that makes them seem like they match.  Think of your grandmother's house, where she may have many different items that have significance to her, but may not necessarily match or be particularly aesthetically appealing.

However, the focus in a real Mexican restaurant is all about the food, and staying true to the culture.  While a Tex-Mex establishment may try to win customers over with symmetrical design and vibrant color combinations, authentic Mexican eateries let the food speak for itself.

Pay Close Attention To The Menu

Another tip to keep in mind when seeking out an authentic Mexican restaurant is the importance of paying close attention to the menu.  Many restaurants have common Tex-Mex items on their menu, but if you want the real deal, you may need to look outside of shrimp tacos and steak quesadillas.

Look for a restaurant that has authentic Mexican food as the central focus of their menu.  Dishes like hominy, chayote and chilaquilas are central to Mexican food culture and won't typically be found in the Tex-Mex sector.

Finding an authentic Mexican restaurant that serves the food that you've been seeking doesn't have to be difficult if you know what to do.  The next time you want a good Mexican meal, look for these signs so you can have an enjoyable experience.
